Text of the letter:
Dear ______________,
Ho, ho, ho! I heard you are interested in helping out our animal friends this holiday season. You are so compassionate! I wanted to write and share a few ideas.
Talk to your grownups and see if you can volunteer at a shelter. Some facilities welcome young volunteers to clean dog cages, scoop litterboxes, socialize cats, and other tasks. If this isn’t possible, maybe you can collect donations for the shelters in your area. Most are always in need of food, bedding, cleaning supplies, and other items.
You could also support a charity that helps animals in other ways. For example, you could make treats for a bake sale. Or, organize a fundraiser. Is there a pet adoption event where you could volunteer? You could even do extra chores or pick up odd jobs and donate part of your money to your favorite cause. Some children choose to ask birthday party guests to bring a shelter gift rather than a present for themselves. Of course, all of this is up to you.
Please write back and let me know what you end up doing! I love animals, too. I must say, though, that the dogs and cats sometimes get suspicious when I’m delivering gifts during the night. They are so clever!
Love,
Santa
